Dear Cornell Family,
First-Year Parents’ Weekend offers a unique opportunity for you to visit campus, meet other First-Year Cornell families, faculty and staff members, and participate in a full weekend of activities designed especially for you.
It is our hope that Cornell’s First-Year Parents’ Weekend will help you to feel more knowledgeable about your son or daughter’s life on campus. In addition, please enjoy the weekend’s sampling of the richness that characterizes the Cornell undergraduate experience.
Please note that not all activities during First-Year Parents’ Weekend are included with your registration fee. Many activities are designated with a $ symbol to indicate an additional ticket must be purchased in advance for every member of your family, including your Cornell student. All tickets purchased ahead of time will be available for you to pick up at Check-In on Friday, October 30, 2009 in the Robert Purcell Community Center.
The first semester at college presents adjustments for many students. Please discuss your plans for visiting campus in advance with your daughter or son and work with them to plan your visit so that it fits with their schedule. Your student will probably have study or work commitments during First-Year Parents’ Weekend. In addition, students often request that you take them off campus for dining and shopping excursions rather than attending the activities of First-Year Parents’ Weekend. The weekend’s activities offer much flexibility for you to create your own schedule and select which events you wish to take advantage of either on your own or with your son or daughter.
As you may know, securing accommodations in the Ithaca area during big weekends at the university can be difficult. Make your reservations as early as possible. A list of area hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast establishments is included in the Family Guide publication previously mailed to you in June. We also provide many links to area accommodations on our web site to assist you in making reservations.
We look forward to welcoming you to campus for First-Year Parents’ Weekend 2009.
Sincerely,
Sarah H. Jones
